Starting in 2026, we are offering Flameworking classes! This style of glassmaking utilizes different equipment, movements and even glass formulas but its origins date back even further than glassblowing with the earliest intentional glass creations being solid beads made in this style. In this studio you will be working on bench top torches to manipulate either Borosilicate glass or soft soda lime glass. Whether you’ve never melted glass before or have years behind the torch, we have a class for you! This is a space to learn fundamentals, grow your skills or iron out the
kinks and breath new life into your practice. Prepare to blow bubbles, construct complex hollow and solid forms, work with color manipulation and learn new prep skills, make soft glass components for your hot shop practice, or hit the mandrel and make some unique beads. Our team has a wide range of skills and experience and can offer something for everyone.
♦ Bead Basics: Curious about the art of flameworking? This beginner-friendly class will introduce you to the foundations of glass bead making—no prior experience needed. Using a torch, you’ll learn how to melt and shape glass onto a mandrel (steel rod), practice creating basic bead forms, and explore simple decoration techniques to add patterns and texture.
We’ll also cover a demo on essential skills like proper annealing (controlled cooling), safely removing beads from the mandrel, and finishing your creations. By the end of class, you’ll leave with the confidence to continue exploring this exciting craft on your own! Since beads must cool overnight in the kiln, your instructor will take care of the finishing process for you, and your completed glass beads will be ready for pickup the following business day.
