The more detailed report starts here…
Our classes are designed for those aged 18+. No exceptions.
Groups of 6-24 can book a private event Tuesday – Sunday. Workshops last 2-2.5 hours and involve each participant getting one-on-one instruction on designing and creating a small glass item to take home once it has cooled overnight. For groups larger than 12, please sign up for two simultaneous reservations (each must be 6-12 participants*) in order to reserve the appropriate amount of instructors and space in our studio. For groups smaller than 6, you may sign up and pay for 6 or more but come with fewer participants. Your group will be able to make as many items as you signed up for so some participants can make a second item.
*For Example: A group of 14 should reserve two 7-person workshops, rather than one 12-person and one 2-person. To ensure we have enough space, please make the first reservation but hit “continue shopping” before making payment to add a second reservation to your cart. Make these two reservations for the same time slot. If we are too booked to take two reservations at that time, we recommended selecting another time altogether.
Individual Hands-On Activity
Each participant has the opportunity to make a small glass object one-on-one with an instructor. Our instructors act as a guide and keep our students safe but we try to allow the participant to do as much of the process as possible, which makes for a really memorable experience. Our facility is set up so that those who aren’t participating are able to watch, take pictures of, encourage or (sometimes) heckle the others, and enjoy any food/beverages you’ve brought in. See images above for the possible items that can be made in this type of workshop: ornament/sun-catcher, paperweight, flower, moon rock, bud vase, heart, mushroom or dish. (Each event may have two options for projects but each participant will only make one. When making two reservations for your event, project options MUST match or instructors will select their two favorites for your group instead.)
We also have some space at the back of our shop that can accommodate catering or bringing in your own food and beverage, if you so choose. We do recommend bringing coolers for beverages and if bringing in alcohol, please encourage your group to limit consumption until after they have participated in the hands-on activity.
Projects will take a day to cool down without cracking. Typically, items are cool enough to collect by 3pm the following day. However, power outages have been known to cause our equipment to glitch and take longer to cool. If you are not able to collect your projects after they have cooled, we can ship them to you for an additional charge. Items are not shipped every day so please be patient with us as we orchestrate this added service.
Showing up late forces us to cut your experience short. Please plan for ALL PARTICIPANTS to arrive early as latecomers will not be permitted to participate.
***It is best to know your numbers upon booking!! We cannot accommodate changes within 5 days of your event and will not grant refunds for no-shows (though, in the case of fewer participants than scheduled, some participants may repeat the class to make additional items up the the total number booked).***
Group Workshop FAQ:
- What if my group is only 4 people? Six is our minimum for cost purposes but, if you pay for 6 (or more), you may come in with fewer people. We will still encourage you to make six items so some folks may participate twice.
- The date/time I need is not available. I’m sorry that our schedule doesn’t line up with yours! Hopefully, we can line things up in the future but we wish you the best with whatever you choose to do!
- The date/time I want says “It is already too late to make this reservation”. This is correct! We set these parameters for a reason. We give you all first dibs on about 60% of our calendar. Five days out, we not only set our instructor schedule but all unbooked times get assigned to other activities/projects such as professional fabrication. Making changes at this point is too disruptive.
- What if some of us arrive on time but some come a bit later? We start with a group safety orientation and cannot guarantee that any latecomers will be able to participate. Plan for the entire group to arrive a few minutes early to ensure a great event! If the whole group is late, we will not have time for everyone to participate and there will not be any refunds for those who miss out.
- What if we want to make cups or something besides what you offer? It’s already a stretch for us to get complete beginners in this space and teach them how to make anything successfully AND safely in a crash course format. Some other studios will let you pay to watch or help a professional make a cup but we want you to have a hand in things so stick with our format or go support one of those other studios!
- Alcohol?? Ours is an inherently dangerous workplace! We don’t mind folks having a drink but please keep it to one or fewer before it is your turn to participate. Our staff are very dialed in on safety and will do our best to not embarrass anyone who has had too much but we will not allow you to participate or do as much if we feel you cannot do so safely. The same precautions will be taken if you’re sober but still rowdy so please know yourself and rein in it. After your turn, you can let loose a bit but please still keep it responsible.
