Now Hiring

We are looking to add two new people to our team to meet the high demand for introductory glassmaking workshops. Our classes are designed to allow participants to be very hands-on. As such, instructors must be able to anticipate common pitfalls and help “fix” participant’s pieces that have gone awry. Experience working in this format is preferred. Applicants must be outgoing and have a genuine enjoyment of teaching as this will be your primary role. Knowledge of (or a desire to learn about) the history and science behind what we do is a huge plus.

These positions are part-time (average 20-30 hrs/week) and work may fluctuate seasonally. We encourage all applicants to consider supplementing her/his income through sales of their own work and will provide each team member at least one free 4-hour glassblowing session each week, as well as, free cold shop access. Additional free sessions will be available during slow periods or, on-the-fly, as opportunities arise.

Secondary responsibilities may include help with some production glassblowing sessions and general studio maintenance. GPG is still a small studio with a tight-knit staff who each need to wear all of the hats sometimes. This is a great opportunity to keep your hands fresh or tighten up those teaching skills while being able to develop your own work on the side and learn all of the ins and outs of how a studio runs with a fun and hardworking crew.

Must love dogs but please don’t bring any to work. (Seriously, we already have three!)

Please send a resume, some images of your work and a cover letter expressing why this would be a good fit for you/what you hope to achieve in this role. It is of the utmost importance to us that GPG is as good of a fit for you, as you are for GPG.

“Rooted” Show Opening

Join us September 6 from 6-9pm for the opening of “Rooted,” a series of new glass works by Lauren Hunt. We will also be featuring new paintings by resident artist, Michael W. Hall.

Next month we are excited to be apart of the East Austin Studio Tour (E.A.S.T.)!  November 10-11 and 17-18 we will be hosting demonstrations, hands-on activities and complimentary beverages from 11am-6pm.  Come check us out and be sure to make time to explore the rest of the tour!

Grand Opening Party

Fall is finally here and, as such, we are ready to celebrate our new existence on the east side!  Come join us for our Grand Opening Party!   We will be showing off our skills with some crazy demonstrations on one side of the shop while we have hands-on activities for $55/person on the other side of the shop.  Come watch us work, make your own glass item or just grab a beer, pet our shop dogs and play some lawn games!  Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated.

Update on The Studio Build Out

It has been a while now since we broke ground on the site that will be Ghost Pepper Glass and while a lot has happened in that time, there’s been a lot of stagnation as well.  Various factors have caused delays–everything from hurricanes to miscommunications, from last-minute upgrades to the build-out plans by the property owner, to our site being pushed aside for other priorities (also by the property owner).  I can honestly say that all delays were outside of my control but, fortunately, my team budgeted and planned for many worst-case scenarios and thus have been able to remain patient and optimistic.

While I have received countless timelines from the property owner and his contractors, only this last one seemed likely enough to pass along to our community.  Finally, I feel that I can say with confidence, we will be opening the studio this coming January!

I will start to post more updates and pictures from here on out as the progress is happening rather quickly but for now I will start with one from a couple weeks back that made me laugh.  Not sure how this sign ended up in front of our site but, as you can see, the plumbing is the least of our bathroom worries….

“BATHROOMS ARE OUT OF ORDER – So sorry  🙁  The entire building is having a problem with plumbing”

Business Cards!

New studio business cards are in!  Time to network.  Can this be like Mad Men where “networking” means eating steaks and drinking manhattans?

The Future Site of Ghost Pepper Glass

This caterpillar is about to undergo a whole lot of change before becoming Ghost Pepper Glass.  This place will get stripped down to the studs and rebuilt to house our many distinct studio spaces as well as host a nice outdoor patio space.  Ghost cannot wait until she gets to come to work with me everyday and get lots of belly rubs as the studio mascot!
