**UPDATE** 8/16/2020

**We will put this project on the back burner until we have received more interest and feed back on how we can improve on this program.  Thank you all for your understanding and we look forward to hearing from you!**

Here at Ghost Pepper Glass, we’ve been working hard developing a new program specifically for kids! If you have a child that is 17 years old or under AND who loves to doodle, then send us their drawings! We are going to begin a RAFFLE program where one of our skilled glass artists will sculpt one lucky kid’s drawing out of glass! DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS ENDS ON AUGUST 14th, 10 a.m! The first drawing will be chosen and announced on Saturday, August 15th, 2020 at noon, central time!  The object WILL NOT be made the same day so we will be able to coordinated with the winner so they will be able watch their drawing come to life!  The winner and their family will be invited to watch the object being made on our outdoor patio LIVE!  We will also live stream the making of this object and upload it to Ghost Pepper Glass’s YOUTUBE page. The young designer will get to KEEP the final product! That’s right!

Here is what you can do to enter…

1) Venmo @ghostpepperglass $10 for ONE entry/picture. ($20 for two entries and so on…) From every submission, $5 will be donated to Austin Independent School District Crisis Support Fund! (https://austinedfund.org/donate-to-the-crisis-support-fund/) **There is no limit on the amount of submissions per household.**

2) Email ghostpepperglass@gmail.com the following
– A snap shot or scanned image of your child’s drawing.
– A brief description of what inspired your young artist.
– The artists name and age.

Glass needs time to cool!  Our glass typically needs a full day to cool down from 2,100 degrees F to room temperature.  We will coordinate with the young designer and their family so we can arrange free contact-less pick up or drop off.

THANKS EVERYONE!  GOOD LUCK YOUNG ARTISTS!

COVID-19 Update

Due to the current spread of Coronavirus, our studio is currently closed to the public except by appointment.  We are doing our best to put all of our glassware online to be available for purchase and will make classes available for booking again, when appropriate.  Support through the purchase of gift cards, merchandise and glassware is hugely appreciated through this stressful time as we do everything we can to keep our staff and studio secure.  If you do need to come into our shop, please send an email to ghostpepperglass@gmail.com for the most timely response in coordinating a visit.

Thanks

GPG Team

Now Hiring

We are looking to add two new people to our team to meet the high demand for introductory glassmaking workshops. Our classes are designed to allow participants to be very hands-on. As such, instructors must be able to anticipate common pitfalls and help “fix” participant’s pieces that have gone awry. Experience working in this format is preferred. Applicants must be outgoing and have a genuine enjoyment of teaching as this will be your primary role. Knowledge of (or a desire to learn about) the history and science behind what we do is a huge plus.

These positions are part-time (average 20-30 hrs/week) and work may fluctuate seasonally. We encourage all applicants to consider supplementing her/his income through sales of their own work and will provide each team member at least one free 4-hour glassblowing session each week, as well as, free cold shop access. Additional free sessions will be available during slow periods or, on-the-fly, as opportunities arise.

Secondary responsibilities may include help with some production glassblowing sessions and general studio maintenance. GPG is still a small studio with a tight-knit staff who each need to wear all of the hats sometimes. This is a great opportunity to keep your hands fresh or tighten up those teaching skills while being able to develop your own work on the side and learn all of the ins and outs of how a studio runs with a fun and hardworking crew.

Must love dogs but please don’t bring any to work. (Seriously, we already have three!)

Please send a resume, some images of your work and a cover letter expressing why this would be a good fit for you/what you hope to achieve in this role. It is of the utmost importance to us that GPG is as good of a fit for you, as you are for GPG.

Grand Opening Party

cropped-Facebook-Grand-Opening-Ad-1.jpg

Fall is finally here and, as such, we are ready to celebrate our new existence on the east side!  Come join us for our Grand Opening Party!   We will be showing off our skills with some crazy demonstrations on one side of the shop while we have hands-on activities for $55/person on the other side of the shop.  Come watch us work, make your own glass item or just grab a beer, pet our shop dogs and play some lawn games!  Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated.

Update on The Studio Build Out

It has been a while now since we broke ground on the site that will be Ghost Pepper Glass and while a lot has happened in that time, there’s been a lot of stagnation as well.  Various factors have caused delays–everything from hurricanes to miscommunications, from last-minute upgrades to the build-out plans by the property owner, to our site being pushed aside for other priorities (also by the property owner).  I can honestly say that all delays were outside of my control but, fortunately, my team budgeted and planned for many worst-case scenarios and thus have been able to remain patient and optimistic.

While I have received countless timelines from the property owner and his contractors, only this last one seemed likely enough to pass along to our community.  Finally, I feel that I can say with confidence, we will be opening the studio this coming January!

I will start to post more updates and pictures from here on out as the progress is happening rather quickly but for now I will start with one from a couple weeks back that made me laugh.  Not sure how this sign ended up in front of our site but, as you can see, the plumbing is the least of our bathroom worries….
